PRIDE Picnic a success

PFLAG is a nonprofit organization serving LGBT persons, their families, friends and allies by providing support, education, and advocacy services.

This year on July 4, PFLAG Greeley hosted Greeley’s first Family PRIDE Picnic. Our thanks to the Unitarian Universalist Church for providing PFLAG space along the parade route to watch the Stampede parade and host the picnic and to the Greeley Stampede Committee for providing parking passes for our volunteers to have access to the church to set up before the start of the parade.

We would also like to thank the Pride Picnic planning committee, Jason Krukowski for donating his graphic arts talents to create a PRIDE Picnic poster, the many volunteers who set up tents, tables, and chairs, provided decorations, served food and helped clean up afterward and, of course, thanks to all the friends and supporters of our LGBT community who came together with us to enjoy the Stampede Parade and the picnic that followed.

PFLAG Greeley would like to offer special recognition and thanks to the UNC Gender and Sexuality Center, King Soopers, Safeway, Target, Sam’s Club, and First Congregational UCC for supporting this event with donations of food and supplies. We are grateful for the support and generosity of these organizations and businesses.

Our local PFLAG Greeley chapter, now in its third year, is one of 350 chapters found in all 50 states. The chapter meets monthly at the First Congregational United Church of Christ at 2101 16th St. and is open to all persons without regard to their religious or social affiliations, race, gender, ethnic identity or physical ability.

Courthouse celebration a wonderful experience

I attended the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Weld County Courthouse.

I want to express my appreciation to all of those who helped make this such a wonderful event. Among those are courthouse employees, volunteers, Mike Peters, Batter Up Cakes, and many others behind the scenes.

It was a great event. I learned a lot and had a lot of fun. Thank you!

Help with dog appreciated

Last weekend I was walking two dogs.

I was at the corner of 45th Avenue and 15th Street Lane. A driver warned me that two dogs, on the loose and with no owner present, were approaching me.

I quickly and severely said “No.” and one headed back home. The other one looked as if it was intending to follow us and approach my dogs.

The driver who had warned me, and the driver of another car, used their cars to shield me and distract that dog so that I could get home safely.

Thank you!

Nice to see patriotism

Being seniors, we shop at the Westlake Wine and Spirits, 2024 35th Ave.

The owner Jim is very special, making sure everything is carried to our car and secured. Which means a lot. One is treated with a lot of TLC.

I was in there on the 4th of July and the background music was Kate Smith singing “God Bless America.” It gave me goosebumps.

I said to the young man, “You should play that all day.” He replied, “That is what we are doing.”

This is Jim and love of country. I commend you, Jim. What a wonderful tribute on this special day.

We need more like this in our country now.
