Vote Love Defeat Hate: Organizing for the Long Haul Worship Service – REGISTRATION

This fall, the UU the Vote team is excited to invite all our Unitarian Universalist congregations and covenanting communities to participate in a special UU the Vote worship service, drawing together voices from across Unitarian Universalism as we ground together in our faith and roll up our sleeves to bring our values to the public square in the 2020 elections. By providing this worship service to our congregations, we aspire to provide hope, inspiration and encouragement, so that our collective spirits can be bolstered for the work ahead.

Service description (for use in congregational communications):

In these midst of global pandemic, rising authoritarianism, and uprising, lives hang in the balance and the future of democracy is on the line. In response, Unitarian Universalists are answering the call of our faith, building powerful partnerships to mobilize our communities to #VoteLove and #DefeatHate in the 2020 elections. Join UUA President Susan Frederick-Gray, the UU the Vote team, and a lineup of powerful, prophetic UU voices as we explore the intersections of faith, justice, and democracy in this collective virtual service.

Content:

The service will include many typical elements of a UU liturgy, as well as some unique components:

  • Chalice Lighting & Call to Worship
  • Music & Hymns
  • Time for All Ages
  • Prayer
  • Homily by UUA President, Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray
  • Reflections by UU the Vote volunteers, youth, and justice leadership
  • Offering & invitation to give in support of UU the Vote
  • Call to Action
  • Chalice Extinguishing & Benediction

Format:

We will offer this worship service in two formats:

  • Complete service: a video of the entire service, including all worship elements, will be available online to congregations to stream via the platform of their choice.
  • Individual worship elements: videos of each piece of the service will be available for congregations to choose from and integrate into their own liturgies.

Timing:

All videos will be available by the end of the day on Tuesday, September 22, as a part of UU the Vote’s week of action surrounding National Voter Registration Day. We recommend that congregations use these videos for worship on September 27 or October 4; however, all pieces of the service will be appropriate to use anytime before election day.

Access:

Register below to let us know you plan on participating in the UU the Vote worship in your congregation. You will receive a confirmation email letting you know your registration is complete, and another email once the videos are live.

Cost:

In order to help us cover the costs of production (including honoraria for worship leaders) and in support of UU the Vote’s organizing work,  we are asking that congregations make a donation to UU the Vote, much like they would pay a guest worship leader and/or musician. We recommend using the UU Ministers Association’s Scale of Professional Fees as a guide ($315 – small congregations; $350 – mid-sized congregations; $385 – large congregations). If such a donation is beyond the abilities of a smaller congregation, videos will be accessible for free; conversely, we encourage larger congregations with bigger budgets to donate more.

We also ask that your congregation dedicate the Sunday offering to UU the Vote on the day you use these materials. We will provide the invitation to the offering, as well as instructions about how to give, in the worship video(s).

If you commit to making a contribution to UU the Vote in either or both of these ways, you will receive follow-up communication from our Office of Stewardship and Development about how to complete your donations. The contributions made to UU the Vote will fuel the organizing that is mobilizing our communities to create powerful partnerships as we #VoteLove and #DefeatHate in the 2020 elections. This is a real “all-hands-on-deck” moment. We appreciate your congregation’s participation, and your generous support.

We look forward to worshipping with you.
