Who Are We?

We are a people of faith with open minds, loving hearts and helping hands. CUUC has been a part of the Tri-Cities since 1948, helping families explore world religions, human diversity, ethics and responsible living. We keep our minds open to the religious questions people have struggled with in all times and places. We believe that personal experience, conscience, and reason should be the final authorities in religion. In the end, religious authority lies not in a book, person, or institution, but in ourselves. CUUC’s services and programs support each person’s life-long growth and spiritual learning. Come as you are. Come as who you are. We are a Welcoming Congregation. Our differing strengths and gifts join to form a caring and vibrant church.

We are Unitarian Universalists

Please Join Us for Our Upcoming Services

Saturday, March 30, 7:00 PM: Tenebrae Vespers
Rev. Monica Jacobson-Tennessen

In some branches of the Christian tradition, the days just before Easter include a Tenebrae service, a remembrance of the final hours of the life of Jesus of Nazareth. In some UU congregations, this service is held as a chance to recognize and mourn lives lost to violence in today’s world. We’ll share in a UU Tenebrae during this Vespers service. This service will be in-person only; there will be no Zoom option.

Sunday, March 31, 10:30 AM: “What Endures”
Rev. Monica Jacobson-Tennessen, Virginia Tomlinson, and the CUUC Choir

This Sunday is Easter in the Christian tradition, falls in the middle of Ramadan in the Islamic tradition, and comes a week after Purim in the Jewish tradition. As Unitarian Universalists, we strive to honor and learn from all the great religious traditions of the world; we’ll gather today amidst the lessons of the Abrahamic traditions.

April 7, 10:30 AM: “Road Conditions”
Rev. Kimberley Debus and Matt Smith

The journey - whatever it may be, and whoever we may be journeying with - isn’t always easy. How we experience it depends on how we approach changing conditions, detours, and rough terrain. We’ll explore what that means for our spiritual journeys as well as those we make collectively in our congregations.

Rev. Kimberley Debus is a community minister based in Maryland, inspiring an artful and art-filled faith. She consults with congregations and religious professionals throughout the denomination. She is affiliated with the Unitarian Church of Lincoln, Nebraska, and has previously served at the Church of the Larger Fellowship as well as congregations in New York and Florida.

April 14, 10:30 am: “Pay Attention”
Worship Leader: Regina McConaghy
Worship Associate: Virginia Tomlinson
Music: Johnny Lydon

“What is the best time to do things?” “Who is the most important person?” “What is the most important thing to do?” Join us for a special dramatic readers’ theater style worship where we will witness a queen, a surly chicken farmer, and a survivor of a gargoyle attack explore the answers to these questions and more.

April 21, 10:30 am: “It Takes a Village to Save the World”
Matt Smith and Joan Gray

There are countless scenarios where we may hear the call of community spurring us to action: A family whose car has broken down by the side of the road, a teen begging for food at the grocery store, a family friend left destitute by bills and, on the other side of the spectrum, a world become so warm that thousands of species are being lost forever. At what point do we see this suffering as intolerable and feel a need to act? What does community mean to each of us? Join us this Sunday to explore the who, what and why’s of the idea of community.

April 28, 10:30 AM: “Freedom and Connection”
Rev. Monica Jacobson-Tennessen, Alex Emig, and the CUUC Choir

Author Mia Birdsong writes “Being free is, in part, achieved through being connected.” This framing has much to offer us, as covenantal people of a free faith. Come explore the life-giving possibilities and power held in freedom paired with connection.
